Wareham

A car crashes into a gas pump tossing it 50 feet on Monday. The aftermath caught via cell phone by a channel 7 viewer. Firefighters arrive just moments after the accident to put out the flames.

Police officials say the woman was driving down Cranberry Highway when she blacked out hitting two vehicles and the gas pump. The driver of that car was in a rental as a result of a similar crash just five days before. Police have asked the RMV to revoke her licence.

What a crazy story! What do you think happened? Do you thing she really blacked out? If so does she have a condition that should prevent her from driving?

Motivation

We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The past couple of months I have been lacking in motivation and in need of a new focus. A new vision to put things into perspective. Everything from loan payments down to the typical holiday stress that is continually piled on top of my shoulders. Sometimes I wounder how long I will be able to stand before I fall down, but you know what they say, once you fall you just dust yourself off and get right back up.

My father has this saying for when we trip, "Did you have a nice trip?... See you next fall...." When you are little you just shrug it of and roll your eyes, "oh Dad!," but it makes me wonder sometimes if he has it right? Most of the times the stress we carry can get too heavy that it becomes easy to completely shut down. When we do, it takes some time for us to get up and move along.

For me it has been a little difficult to move along. Once of the most influential figures in my life past away this past August. I am hit by the loss in waves of emotion that tend to reveal itself at random times. Each time making the loss a reality I am forced to face whether I want to or not.

Grief is handled by a variety of different ways. I handle it differently every time and cannot give any solid advice other then to take it one day at a time.

If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes.

~St. Clement of Alexandra

I find myself preaching to the choir, this is not new information. It is just a new way of shaping the constant advice given about the subject. I cannot tell you how many times I have been given this advice. But, they have a point with out hope what can we hope to accomplish if we have no desire to go further then before.

Right now I am trying to reach a certain career goals; I keep getting bombarded with road blocks that make me doubt not only my skills but myself. In this New Year I am making the promise to get a move on.

So now I will leave you with this:

"Our journey through this life is full of twists and turns. At each turn hope for something better because the worst that could happen is that you have to turn around."
~Danielle Giguere

Dreamers

When I was a freshmen in college I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to be. I just knew that communications included all the things I enjoyed and quickly found my niche. The classes were stimulating and got me excited about the future.

Years went by and the classes I chose became centered around journalism. It was something that surprised me as I had never shown any interest in it before. I was just interested in becoming a better writer and tried to take every opportunity.

I decided in my classes that broadcast journalism was the way to go. Shooting footage and piecing together the visual and verbal aspects of story was a process that made me feel I had done somthing. Using my knowledge I enrolled in a few internship programs both in Boston and in Portland ME. I made a lot of connections and further enjoyed my choice in career.

By the time I graduated I had found my calling. But, now almost two years out of college I am no closer to that dream job I had in mind when I graduated. Currently, I do work at a TV station but not doing what I want. I feel my skills are lacking as I am out of practice and my spirit has been fading. My motivation wavers which frustrates me because this is something I am interested in.

I am frustrated by this economy and the whole process of applying. Constantly waiting to hear from employers as they string you along. When will it get better?

Job Seekers

After graduating from Keene State in the spring of 2008 I have had to write a lot of cover letters and resumes, seeking out employment in various places for a variety of jobs related to my field. Between relatives in human resources, the college career center, friends, and a little help from google I was able to make it through.

However, you must know that you cannot continue to use these documents for every job as they each have a short life span. Resumes you can get away with not editing for at least a year as long as it is up to date. Cover letters have a life span of one use at a time. The same cover letter can't be expected to bring home the bacon everytime.

I find for cover letters the best reasource(thanks Liz!) is Martin Yate's book entitled Cover Letters that Knock 'em Dead. They have multiple examples and power phrases that you can adapt to your own needs. Yate provides you the ablity to have strong cover letters that not only exhibit your talents but grab employers attention.

Beginner

I have had my fair share of blogs and live journals but, was never comfortable sharing my deepest thoughts with the whole world. Since college I have learned that blogs are a type of medium both professionals and non professionals use to show case their talents or for what ever else they choose.

We choose to follow these creative individuals to get insight in their small piece of the world we live in. To share in their thoughts, creative projects, failures, excitment, and most importantly their triumphs.

This blog will be as ecclectic as my taste in music giving me an excuse to write. Mainly focusing on topics I know: Boston nightlife, books, news stories, and anything I can get my hands on. So if you're bored and don't know what to do, want a new book to read, or want a more in depth discussion on current events enjoy the Boston Jig ;)
